Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation has released the Lunaracer, its latest special-edition sneaker inspired by Armstrong’s training regimen and ongoing commitment to support cancer research.
Livestrong collaborations are approaching a saturation point, but the LunaRacer shoe is the first time two proprietary Nike technologies—Lunarlite foam and “Flywire”, both developed for last year’s Olympic Games—have been used in the same shoe.
Actually, there are two distinct models of the shoe. One running shoe and one for everyday casual wear. The two make-ups are pictured above.
The benefits of the Lunaracer are sincerely attractive to long distance runners. The lightweight foam material makes for a ultralight weight but responsive and comfortable sole. The Flywire provides strong support without adding superfluous bulk.
Different from Nike’s typical Lunaracer, the Livestrong special edition shoes are black (Lance’s favorite shoe color) with yellow details reminiscent of Tour de France victories.
The combination of technologies raises Nike’s bar for the fastest, strongest, and lightest long distance running shoe Nike has produced. While these may help your endurance you’ll need a little bit of speed to get a pair—Nike Sportswear’s Soho flagship in New York City is one of the only retailers allowed to sell them. There will be other selected retailers offering them but when they’re gone, they’re gone.
At least until they’re on eBay. (Beware of rip-offs.)
